however are here presenting themes that you will instantly
recognize - but in their own unique style. Yes, a repertoire incorporating
Bach, Vivaldi, Purcell and Handel -
all composers one would expect to hear on the concert stage - but then
moving into "gems" from a different genre. |
Listen
to Maple Leaf Rag by Scott
Joplin - a ragtime masterpiece in its own right - Hoagy
Carmichael's Stardust and our tribute to the timeless Carpenters'
version of A Ticket To Ride - all,
we feel, classics from another era. |
Enjoy
the tasty trio styling of popular baroque and romantic themes more usually
associated with the symphonic orchestra:
|
The immensely beautiful dual themes in Rimsky-Korsakov's
Scheherazade which tug at the heart strings in their original
settings sound equally moving in the lighter context of piano,
double bass and percussion - Bill Evans style. |

Spanish music with its vibrant and exciting
rhythms has had a major influence on musical composition throughout
the western world and Suite Espagnole
blends masterpieces by Granados
and Albeniz into one major
feature for the whole trio. |
|
Themes from Hollywood blockbusters
have proved that masterful music is still being composed, and
we present two of our favorites: Oscar winning scores by Dave
Grusin for that giant of a film On
Golden Pond and Leonard Bernstein's
West Side Story, lasting evidence that truly great composition
does not have to be two hundred years old! |
|
All
performances remain faithful to the original melody, harmony and expression
- every theme you will hear having been played and enjoyed by us for
most of our professional lives. Increasingly though, we feel a need
to reach newer audiences by presenting our concerts in a "jazz
friendly" way - audiences who have had little access to our world
of real music, for whatever reason.
With this in mind, we have found the music of
to be ideally suited to the intimate atmosphere of the theatre, and
the response of audiences throughout the country is proving that we're
on the right track! Long may this continue!!
